- 2 cups thick coconut milk
- 1 cup thin coconut milk
- 5-6 pieces of kaffir lime leaves
- 2 pieces of turmeric leaves, thinly sliced
- 2 lemongrass stalks, bruised
- 3-4 tbsp curry powder
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tbsp tamarind paste
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 cup water
- 2-3 pieces of dried tamarind, soaked in water
Instructions
Follow these steps to make Gulai Kawah Daging:- Heat the oil in a large pot or wok over medium heat.
- Add the curry powder and chili powder to the pot and fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the beef and stir-fry for a few minutes until it is browned on all sides.
- Add the thick coconut milk, thin coconut milk, water, kaffir lime leaves, turmeric leaves, lemongrass stalks, tamarind paste, sugar, and salt. Stir well to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Add the soaked tamarind and continue to simmer for another 15-20 minutes until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened.
