- 5 cardamom pods
- 5 cloves
- 2 star anise
- 2 teaspoons of tamarind paste
- 1 tablespoon of salt

- 10 shallots
- 5 cloves of garlic
- 5 dried chilies
- 2 tablespoons of coriander seeds
- 1 tablespoon of cumin seeds
- 1 tablespoon of fennel seeds
- 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Spice Paste
To make the spice paste, blend all the ingredients together in a blender until smooth. Set aside.Step 2: Cook the Meat
In a large pot or wok, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, cloves, and star anise, and sauté until fragrant. Add the spice paste and cook until the oil separates from the paste. This should take about 10-15 minutes. Add the beef and stir to coat it in the spice mixture. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the meat is browned.Step 3: Add the Coconut Milk and Water
Add the coconut milk and water to the pot, along with the tamarind paste, salt, and sugar. Stir well to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 2 hours, or until the meat is tender.Step 4: Serve
Once the meat is tender, turn off the heat and let the curry sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Serve the gulai daging kawah with steamed rice or bread.Nutrition
